Can a hard drive affect ping/latency?

I've been noticing for the past couple of weeks that my hard drive has been reaching 100% a lot, and whenever it does so it seems to negatively affect my latency/ping. For example, in GTA V, I can play the game perfectly for about 30 minutes or so, after which whenever I travel a large distance (and thus have to load different areas) it'll stutter and freeze on me a lot. Whenever I play games like Team Fortress 2 or Battlefield 4, I'll get a ping that's around 50 or so which will suddenly skyrocket to 850, then back down to 50 again, and I'll be teleported back to a spot I was just at a few seconds ago on screen.

I've attached a couple of pictures that show both my disk and my Wi-fi spiking erratically at different times. I'm just not sure if they're related at all. I've ran a chkdsk and found it found no bad sectors, so I'm not sure what the deal is. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

This is really late, but I found out the issues for my latency/ping. Apparently it was caused by Autodesk Application Manager, for some reason.

Your graphics card either needs to be upgraded for that stuttering issue

Windows firewall, and/or antivirus firewalls can cause ping spikes. Interference devices like cordless phones, microwaves being turned on can also mess up a wifi signal. Keep these devices far away from your router or laptop. A router may need to be upgraded for more speeds

Otherwise, the issue with ping is based on what the ISP provides you with

GPU could be the source of the issues on GTA V yea, but not Battlefield 4. I've got a 750 Ti that's always been able to run it just fine until recently. And it's no excuse for Team Fortress 2.

YES! In Windows 8 especially, as it was more designed for tablets which use SSD type RAM Drives, and if your NOT running at LEAST a 7200RPM HDD on SATA III yes you will 'max out' and will cause game impact, especially if you do NOT have enough RAM (8GB is the norm) and instead relying on Window's Page File.

That of course is based on you do NOT have Malware running amok in the background too.

If you want further help, then please follow these steps, and reply LINE BY LINE doing each and what the outcome was each separately. No there is no quickfix / turn off this / turn on that. Anything can be causing the issue, but these rule out the 90% most common.

Did you install all Windows Updates? Including OPTIONAL except BING? Check them and repeat till ALL are installed.

Download and run Slim Drivers, install all the latest updates but you don't need to reboot until you do the last update

Go to www.filehippo.com, download Malwarebytes, go to CUSTOM Scan and set it to do a full system scan (by DEFAULT IT DOESN"T DO THAT, and AntiVirus doesn't pick up alot of malware) - this resolved almost ALL other similiar posts to date as most had Malware the AV didn't pick up.

Remove whatever AV your using and download AVIRA, AVG, Comodo or Panda go to CUSTOM Scan and set it to do a full system scan (by DEFAULT IT DOESN"T DO THAT) - this repeatedly has resolved alot of people issue relying on MS Essentials.

Repeat the AV/Malware scans till the system comes up clean.

Download and run SPECCY, copy and paste the first tab to show your idle temps

Download AUTORUNS and turn off anything NOT critical on startup, so you don't need to run JAVAScheduler to check for Java updates everytime you start your computer for example. BE CAREFUL AND KNOW WHAT YOUR TURNING OFF BEFORE YOU DO IT.

Download and run MSI Afterburner, in the settings turn ON OSD, then go through and SET the stuff to 'watch' by enabling them in OSD (On Screen Display)
Now run some of the games that run poor, what temps are you getting when underload as compared to what you posted?
With MSI Afterburner Do you see anything funny that the CPU or other parts are maxing out (we are testing here not trying to WIN at the games, so if your screen is filled with readouts then just deal as we are just observing).
Do you see this problem when in SOLO MODE? Only when Multiplayer?
Check all the games you listed, and provide if there they ALL or just SOME are having this issue?

Open Computer, Can Air dust out the bunnies and use paint brush on the vents, coolers, fans, etc.

Go through and provide a response on each point, don't SKIP IT because "I ALREADY DID IT" , just try doing it again as of THIS post so we know NOW what is happening as compared to BEFORE you posted.
