I'm a first time builder who has ran into what I'm assuming is a hardware issue at this point.
Any time I try to run a game on my new computer my screen blacks out within 10 seconds of completing a starting cut scene and all of my peripherals restart. I then am forced into a hard reboot. (which on a new computer is really bumming me out) Like stated above, I'm a first time builder... having said that I'm pretty sure everything was installed properly in terms of hardware and I'm near positive I have all updated drivers.

Specs:

OS - Windows 8.1 64bit
GPU - Asus Strix GTX 980
CPU - Intel i7 4790 3.60 GHz w/ Coolermasters 212Evo Cooler
MOBO - GIGABYTE Ultra Durable GA-Z97X-UD5H
RAM - 8GB (x2 4GB)
PSU - EVGA 750w
SSD - Samsung Pro 270g (Boot)
HDD - WD Black 1TB

I tried to run Furmark at 1080 and it crashed the same as the games do. I mention 1080 because my monitor is 4k and I've been attempting to run games at 4k res (reverted to 1080 with same results). My GPU sits at a desktop temp of 42 degrees. (I don't know what the norm should be)

Hopefully I can get some help, and maybe get some answers for someone who's in a similar predicament at the same time!

Thanks

Hi! Thanks for giving me a hand here.

I installed HWMonitor and its reading my core temps between 32 and 37 fluctuating just at desktop.

Any thoughts on a next step?

Well...

My green is showing. When I ran HWMonitor I decided to open up the tower just to make sure everything was okay visually and realized that one of my 6 prongs leading to my GPU was slightly unplugged. DOH.

In short, my GPU was running with half the juice it should have been.

Thanks for the help guys. Everything seems to run smooth now.
Novice out.
