Currently I have a WD 1TB green and a new Samsung 850 Evo 500GB.

I have formatted the SSD as a storage medium and it is empty. I would like my Windows to boot off of the SSD, but i do not have my original Windows install CD, or any way of externally booting currently (USB/CD).

I do not want to clone my 1TB of data to the SSD, just the OS. I wouldn't mind fresh installing with the HDD unplugged and just configure it later, I just need to know how to remove Windows from the HDD and move it to the SSD.

Thank you everyone for responding. I have now decided that I will just back up a few important things and do a clean install.

Hey there, Kdude1707!

There are a number of cloning/migrating software tools you could use to do this. However, since your previously booting drive is a WD Green, I can suggest you to try cloning with Acronis True Image WD Edition: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=XedfHU
You've got the option for both automatic and manual cloning, and with the latter you can select only the things you wish to clone to the SSD without needlessly filling its capacity. Here are a couple of tutorials on how to perform these procedures:
The manual clone using Acronis True Image WD Edition - http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=hrK9rR
The automatic clone - http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=rOALAZ

If you decide to go with any other software tool, here's a detailed migration tutorial that might be useful to you: http://lifehacker.com/5837543/how-to-migrate-to-a-solid-state-drive-without-reinstalling-windows

Good luck! Hope this helps you! :)
