There is another thread with a very similar problem but not applicable to me:
http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/answers/id-2345393/asrock-debug-code.html

My setup:

Motherboard: ASROCK Z97 Extreme4
CPU: Intel i7-5775C
RAM: KINGSTON HX318C9SRK4/32 32GB (4X8GB)
PSU: Corsair HX 620 W

No peripherals such as graphics cards, disk drives etc. are connected on the motherboard. None of the internal audio, USB, etc. jacks are connected either. The only thing connected is power from the power supply, a keyboard, a mouse, and a monitor.

When powering up, the Dr. Debug display goes through various codes like 19, 4f, 99, and finally stops at code d6, "The VGA could not be recognized".

I have tried with a monitor plugged-in on VGA, DVI, HDMI; nothing.

I have tried using only one of the 4 dimms on slot A1; nothing.

I have tried clearing the CMOS via button and via jumper; nothing.

I tried without keyboard and mouse, and the d6 error code is replaced after a second or so with a code d7, "The keyboard and mouse could not be recognized".

Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Cheers,
Megahurts.

Solution
well I guess your using the onboard ??? check your bios page 85 and check to see if its set to onboard or pci [card]

I would also assume that the boards bios is the right one for supporting that brodwell chip ?? [p2.00 or higher ]

Yes, I am trying to use the onboard display.
What is "bios page 85"? I cannot get to the BIOS because I don't have any display whatsoever.
It seems you are right, the BIOS version that I have P1.30 does not support my i7-5775C, as evidenced here: http://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/Z97%20Extreme4/?cat=CPU

What would my options be for upgrading the BIOS? (Take my BIOS chips to someone with an identical motherboard? Borrow someone's older CPU?)

no I think you would need a supported cpu to fire up the board and flash to the correct bios -- now I cant say if you had a vid card [borrow one from a friend also see if a friend got a cpu not in use that will work on the bios you got ???] - if it displays to get you in the bios to flash that's 1/2 the battle ??--

I really don't know I never bought a board with a unsupported chip [ I all ways just get the best chip that works with the first release bios , but that's just me ?

but I do think you need a support chip for the bios that's on the board now --
