I bought a ASUS because my Dell Inspiron PC screen went out. I have windows vista version 7 original disk that came with my Dell which I would like to use. The ASUS I bought was from a pawn shop and looks like it is set up or Windows 8 but no actual programs. Can I install my old disk or will this cause more headaches. The computer seems to be working great and is fast compared to my Dell. It was all I could afford at the time. Help!

I would also like to transfer files from my Dell but kinda hard with no working screen!

Solution
No, you can't use the dell disk to install to the asus machine, for reasons both technical and legal.

As far as transferring files, the common answer is to remove the hard drive from the old machine and attach it to the new one temporarily, but I'm going to guess that you've never opened a PC before and probably shouldn't try the first time without help. If you send the model numbers for both machines, we might see that the old one has an easily removed hdd (are they desktops or notebooks, anyway), and we can help you hook it up to the new one.
