I've searched on the internet but haven't found a working solution. I'm on Win 7 64-bit with 4GB (2x2)of G-Skill DDR 3 installed on a Gigabyte ga-ex58-ud3r motherboard. System properties shows 4GB installed and 2GB usable. Resource monitor shows 2GB physical memory is "Hardware Reserved". BIOS shows 2GB total memory. I've tried several things including reseating the memory sticks. When I try just one stick at a time (to test if one of the sticks are bad), the system does not boot at all. I've made sure my maximum memory under boot options is unchecked and also verified I have the latest bios.

Anyone know whats up with the missing 2GB and how to recover it?

Thanks for the quick response. I have this GPU: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814130378
How can I check if its set to use 2GB of memory?

Update1: Graphics card properties shows the following
Total Available Graphics Memory: 1279MB
Dedicated Video Memory: 512MB
System Video Memory: 0MB
Shared System Memory: 767MB

Update2: BIOS shows the following
Base Memory: 640K
Extended Memory: 2046M
Total Memory: 2048M

that sounds like turbocache. the only way that i know is to change a registry called RmDisableRenderToSysmem to "01 00 00 00" (binary value) on windows registry editor.
if you cant seem to find that registry try installing RivaTuner. open the Power User menu and find the entry called "nvidia forceware bla bla bla" (forgot what it's called). expant that entry and look for RmDisableRenderToSysmem, set the value to "1" then reboot. if you (somehow) wants turbocache back on, just set the binary value to "00 00 00 00" or "0" on rivatuner.

try googling how to disable turbocache if you're still confused.

Tradesman, you solved the problem. I used the third and fourth slots and I have full 4GB available! I guess the first slot has gone bad? I never though to use the other slots because I didn't think they would work since the manual said to use slot 1 when working with one stick. Thanks a bunch!
