Safety tips and precautions for a first-time builder?

Solution
Work on a wooden surface and give yourself plenty of space.
Don't bring food or drinks to your building area.
You could download all the drivers (motherboard and graphic card) onto a spare USB so you will have them ready and have the up-to-date drivers. You can replace the CD that contain the drivers with that USB.
Don't rush building your pc, plan it out. Don't forget you got your motherboard manual if you're unsure where things are on your motherboard.
You should ideally test your build outside the case before putting in to ensure it works. But it's not a necessary step. You would just place your motherboard on top of your motherboard box. Install the cpu, cpu cooler, ram, gpu and the power supply and test if it will post.

Solution
build on a wooden table or kitchen worktop--dont be standing on nylon carpet while doing it

read instruction manuals carefully first

be especially careful fitting the cpu--pins are very easy to bend

most things only fit one place/way so dont use a lot of force if something doesnt want to go in--stop and think about it

first thing i do when its built is go straight in bios and check cpu temperatures to make sure the cooler is functioning properly
