Hey everyone,

I'm building a new rig. I got the Gigabyte Z97 Gaming G1 motherboard and the i7-4790K for dirt cheap from a friend who works at Intel (employee discounts). I also picked up a Razer Kraken 7.1 Chroma on another friend's recommendation. I generally buy only Sennheisers but I thought I'd give this a try.

Now, I've only had the Kraken for a day, but I like the way it sounds. However, I just realized that these connect over USB, and the G1 motherboard has a sound card that is supposed to be pretty good, so now I'm wondering if I should return the Kraken and get myself an ATH-m50x. It is 2x the cost of what I got the Kraken for though.

What am I going to use them for? RPG gaming and listening to rock, metal, and a little pop.

Thanks

if you consider the kraken "good" sounding then i think you'll be even more surprised if you step into the $100-200 range of headphones as they make gaming headsets sound bad.

the m50x isnt a headphone but its a bit overpriced and has its limitations. i personally own an m50s (earlier version, straight cable) and love it for what its good at and accept what its not so good at.

the good: somewhat bassy, good quality audio, nice warm tones, clear treble, isolating
the bad: very poor soundstage

what kind of sound signature are you looking for? something bassy? neutral?
