looking at those specs alone (smps is not a brand or model of the psu that i can find) it does not look like it will run anything that needs an extra pcie connector. so you will need to buy a card that needs no extra power but what the mobo can give it. probably the best you can use will be a gtx 750 ti that does not need a 6 pin connector. there are a lot of models that do need one so look for one that is not overclocked or has extra cooling fans and such.

if you have the budget, a new power supply would allow for a much better upgrade.

Smps means Switching Mode Power Supply. It's a well advertised type of psu especially in India-Asia.

The only things relevant are brand and model, which could be anything from Seasonic or CoolerMaster to iBall or Zippy. That and the 12v rail, which is rated at 14Amps and the +5v rail which is at 25Amps. This is a quite old design, with such a high +5v rail and a 12v wattage of only 168watts. It's also a server style psu, built to run multiple hard drives etc, with very little towards the video output.

The absolute best card you can run on that psu would be a gtx750ti, of the style that does not require a separate power connector. This is a 60w gpu, or 5 Amps, which will ostensibly leave you with 9 Amps to run your pc's 12v needs. And that's if the psu is actually capable of rated outputs.

There is 1 drawback to the 750ti. It doesn't like old style bios, only the newer uefi bios, so depending on the age of the pc, it may or may not work, in which case you are looking at a GT 640, or GT 730 GDDR5 as the best option.

thanks for the model number :)

this only verifies my initial thoughts. the psu does not have the power for anything but a 75w card. the 750 ti is still the best card you can get in this power range. look at the specs/pictures carefully and pick one that does not have a 6 pin power connector and you should be ok. if you want a better card than this then you will want to upgrade your psu as well.

if you can provide a link to a shop you can but at (it does not seem like your in the USA) and a budget i can look and see what is available for you. if your budget is good enough, then i'd be happy to seek out a psu/gpu combo that will suit your needs.

the resolution you will be gaming at is very important to gpu needs so if you have a lower resolution monitor such a 1600 x 900 then a lower end gpu would be plenty for your needs such as the 750 ti, but higher resolution means a need for a better card.

To answer your question sufficiently, you have a small psu. Because you have a small psu, you can only run the low wattage, low end, weak graphics cards. These cards will only come in 1Gb or 2Gb sizes because they simply do not have the power to have need for larger vram. So that's it. 2Gb at best.

Hi Karadjne,

Thanks for your reply.

If I need to upgrade my SMPS what would be the best for me ( watts) to install 2GB graphics card.

Kindly suggest me SMPS along with the price in INR as I am from India (Mumbai)

Depends on your budget. Of what is common in indian markets, the Seasonic brand is easily the best and most reliable. With a 520w or 550w you could easily have a r9 280 or gtx960, or with a 620w or 650w you could have a r9 290 or gtx 970, all of which are 2-4Gb cards.

A Seasonic 400w is small, but very well built and has quality and good output so will be good for a r7 260x or gtx 750ti.

All depends on how much.

having shopped india sites before, the seasonic units are usually unavailable or wildly expensive if they are. generally, the best bang for the buck in india is the corsair cx series over there but it is always a good idea to skim a site or 2 to be sure.

can you give a link to an online site or 2 that we can skim for you. this way we are not suggesting something you can't actually buy. i'll be happy to look around a site and suggest a solid psu/gpu upgrade for your needs.

a budget is also helpful since it would be easy to suggest stuff that is out of your range.

so please post a shopping link as well as a general budget so we can offer some ideas for you.
