So I'm looking for a good Intel motherboard and I see all these H81 and Z97 boards. My question is what are the differences between them? Also what would be a good motherboard for an I5 4460. I do plan on upgraded to a K series cpu later on.

Solution
There is a table showing the difference between the 8 series chipset:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LGA_1150
The 9 series has support for Haswell Refresh cpu out of the box, support Broadwell cpus, has support for SATA express and M.2.

If you plan to upgrade to get an Intel k cpu, just save and get it then rather then wasting money getting an i5 4460 and then upgrading.

Z97 support overclocking with Intel k cpus.

The leading letter and following number lays out the chipset.
Bxx boards are business series, fairly cheap and not very quality overall for performance systems. Also locked.
Hxx boards are higher quality, but still locked.

Both B and H series boards are limited to a single graphics card as well.

Zxx series boards allow for overclocking as well as SLI.

The numbers represent the series each board is a part of. H97, or Z97, are the boards I recommend for non OC and OC respectively.

Since you are looking at a 4460 (I recommend a 4590, or a 4690K over it) look at the ASRock H97 Pro4. For unlocked processors, something like the Z97-A.
