Hello,

I've just upgraded my motherboard to an ASUS Maximus VII Hero and my CPU to an i7 4790K. Once I got the system up and running I went to the BIOS to change some boot settings, once I finished I restarted my system with the correct driver initializing my OS. I was expecting to enter my Windows activation key but it automatically launched windows 7 with a lot of my old software still running. However, my mouse and keyboard no longer work, my mouse and keyboard work fine in the BIOS and in windows safe mode.
Can someone help?

Windows does not ask for activation key after changing the motherboard. The activation key is only asked for during Windows installation.

Drivers for the new motherboard can be downloaded from ASUS.
Maximus VII Hero Drivers are here:

But your main problem is that you are running an OEM version of Windows.
An OEM version is tied to the first motherboard it's installed on.
Change the motherboard and you also have to buy a new activation key/licence (OEM or retail).
You can still buy Windows 7 through Amazon.

Remember, if you buy a non-OEM (retail)...

I do not have any installation media as I am using an OEM version of windows 7. I was under the impression that my system would ask me for my CD key once the upgrade was finished and my OS detected that the drivers were no longer compatible.

If I need installation media to reinstall windows, is there any way for me to obtain installation media other than contacting the original manufacturer or do I just need to buy a fresh copy of windows?

Remember, if you buy a non-OEM (retail) Windows, it costs more than OEM because it can be used on a different system or on a different motherboard. So it can actually work out cheaper than buying OEM.
