My WIN 7 takes about an hour to bootup after shutting down, it has been doing this for a good while now and so far I have put up with it, but now I need to solve this. WIN 7 Pro, Service Pack 1, MSI Mainboard, AMD FX(tm)-4100 Quad-Core Processor, 3.60 GHz, 8.00 GB RAM, 64-Bit OS. Is this a virus, a software, or hardware glitch?

My old computer used to do this.
What may be happening is to many things are trying to open up as soon as you turn on your computer.
My current PC opens up Steam and Creative Cloud upon start up of the PC. This is no problem as i run Windows files on a SSD which is a lot faster at booting up.

To fix this problem you may have to find an online guide on how to move windows file to a connected SSD. Basically add a SSD into the Hard Drive rack and use it to boot up your Windows files. Is this dose not work then disable all the programmes that open on start up so that it just open windows.

And finally if this dose not work then your BIOS or Motherboard are stuffed up and you will have to but a new Motherboard.

If you want to speed up the process of resolving your issue you could provide as much information about the problem as possible at once.

Boot up like normal, but every step takes 20 mins. I am staring at a blank black screen for 20 min- 1/2 hr. Then the MSI graphics screen comes on very, very slowly, and stays on for about 20 mins, then it gos off and it is blank for a while longer(20 mins), then screen comes up and tells you- "Starting Windows." It is just like it has done since it was new, but just super slow.

se if a friend has a test hard drive that you can put a clean image of windows on it. or see if booting from a windows os disk or usb disk is a slow. if your registry is damaged it can hang windows. if it not windows that the issue it can be a failing hard drive or on reboot the mb or two devices are using the same irq and or memory range. to see if that the issue use onboard video pull any extra sound..modem..video cards from the pc see if it boots fine. if it does put one card back in at a time till the error happens.

I don't want to give out bad advice, but ultimately you might have to do a clean install. At what point did you start noticing this problem? I'm going to give you a few time-saving methods you can try first:.

1. http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/what-are-system-recovery-options#what-are-system-recovery-options=windows-7

2. Open task manager/click startup/right click on the file system and check everything (you could post screen shot of that once you've done that)

3.While still in startup tab click startup tab impact to put apps in descending order. Then you can disable the apps that you do not need at startup. For the most part, you can click the apps you need after you boot. Your main concern is making booting time as quick as possible.

If these 3 steps have not resolved your problem then you might have to do a clean install once you have backed up all of your important files/settings/apps/etc.

Are you sure that I should turn off all those items in msconfig? I am afraid I will turn off some things that the system needs to boot up. I am not sure what all items run with the antivirus. I do not know what specific items I need for it to boot up. Also, There is "no gui Boot" selection on that dialogue box screen.
