My Drive can be located under disc management as disk 1. It does show as connected. It is not showing any space at all. I attempted to right click and change its drive but it is only asking me to Initialize. I have windows 8 and this started after an update. I restored before the update but still no luck. I uninstalled and reinstalled the drivers. I know i should have backed it up but i really need the info.

This sounds truly unfortunate.
Have you had any issues with the drive before the update? Any unusual sounds/noises, system freezing/hanging, low transfer speed etc?
I'd recommend that you try the HDD with a different USB cable (shorter than 12") and a different computer, to see if the same thing happens again. If you're still having the same issues, then you could try accessing the HDD via Linux Live CD/USB, to see if it's properly recognized and if you can get to your files. You could also try some of the data recovery options from this thread: http://www.tomshardware.co.uk/forum/id-1644496/lost-data-recovery.html. And last, but not least - you could go for a data recovery company: WD Data Recovery Partners
