i can get a i5 3470 used very cheap and i am wondering should i get the i5 or get the fx 8350 because i want to buy a cpu that will last 3-4 years and being able to play games
Thanks

as to how long it lasts, it'll probably work for a decade or more, but the mobo would fail before that, neither of which is the real question of how long it'll be useful for, i'd say they'd both be useful for your time period, becoming less useful near the end, though near the end of that period the base offerings from both would be faster than the i5 is now. BUT no-one really knows. There might be something really useful or interesting that you want to use them for in 2 years time that just happens to consume loads of cpu power, or there might not be.

no definite answer to how long it will last/still be capable

my 4 year old 2600k (at 5ghz) is still more than capable now never kept a cpu so long

but the way cpus are going just now theres no huge increase in the new generation that makes it worth upgrading mine yet

Hello... Alot of the Work for Video Graphics/Games is done by the GPU... I upgrade my GPU about 3 times per CPU...
the i5 & i7 1155, 1150, are great performers and can be found used, to save you $$ over a retail version at this time.
Here is a i7 1155 for $185 http://www.ebay.com/itm/Intel-Xeon-E3-1230-V2-3-3GHz-4-Core-Processor-CM8063701098101-SR0P4-/191618551374?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2c9d5b0e4e
