Hello everyone,
5 days ago I got a new GTX 980Ti to replace my old R9 290. Since I installed the 980Ti games started causing the computer to shutdown randomly. I was however able to run tests like 3DMark Fire Strike and Fire Strike Ultra, Furmark, and 3 hours of Aida64 stress test without any problems or shutdowns. I have a 850W Corsair PSU (HX series), an Intel 4670K, 8GB 2133Mhz ram, and using a 4K monitor. For example running a game like CoD:Ghosts on maximum settings causes a shutdown 1 minute after starting a game, however running it on lowest settings, I was able to complete a whole round without any problems. Other games like Shadows of Mordor cause a shutdown before I even start playing. Could my graphics card be faulty or am I doing somehing wrong ?
PS. sorry for the repost

You're within the time to just return/replace the card, so that's definitely an option.

You're able to run Firestrike's / furmark's benchmarks just fine. That's worth noting.

You could pick a game you're having difficulty with, and delete its configuration settings file(s) and try again, or even going all the way and uninstalling/reinstalling the game, if willing to take the time.

Using the 280 doesn't require any special treatment, and none of the above should be necessary when switching graphics and all that.

Your call, investigate more or just get it returned. You could just be chasing a ghost and end up wasting your time.

Your psu looks fine though. Did you update your nvidia drivers? Btw that sounds like a faulty GPU my dad had the same problem. Does your gpu have warranty? if yes then you are lucky enough if not then bye-bye gpu.

yes im running the lastest nvidia drivers, i even formatted my pc but that didnt help either. As for warranty, the card isn't even a week old and I dont think there's gonna be any problem returning it

Do you have your old amd? try it aigain and see if it works if not then something is wrong with the psu if it works then you should return back the gtx 980ti and ask for a replacement if the problem still exists borrow a psu from a friend and try it aigain be sure the psu would be 600+ watt

Maybe try a new psu and then ask a replacement?

Hi everyone. Dropping a few links in case they're helpful. There's some issues people are experiencing with the latest drivers available for the 980 Ti. In a perfect environment, the drivers are fine for many people. They are however, imho, less friendly to a range of system setups.

Extract the 353.38 so its ready to install. I'd use DDU to clean out the AMD, Nvidia, and Intel drivers from safe mode. Do not restart. Immediately install the 353.38 hotfix driver. Only install the driver. You're in safe mode so you won't get the full range of options anyway.

Just finished uninstalling all drivers (both amd and nvidia) and installed 353.38 while in safemode, restarted, ran Ghosts but sadly the problem was still there

Turns out the problem was the psu afterall. I talked to a friend and used his 750w psu (mine was 850w) and everything was working fine again, so I just ordered a new psu. Hope this helps someone.
