Is this an issue I should be concerning about? My psu is tighten into the case by thumb screw and when it is tighten this weird static noise that sounds a lot like coil whine comes out. It is not coil whine as it is only audible when tighten to the case. If it is loose then the psu is whisper quiet. I have yet to encounter any problems with the system but the noise is really bugging me as I have a silence system. I have a cooler master i700 and I assume I have had this noise since the start of this system. I recently upgrading my cpu cooler and basically everything to a quiet build so the noise is actually audible now. Also when I apply pressure to the back of the psu the noise stop but starts again when i release the pressure. I just want to know if this can cause serious issues to my new upgrades which are quite expensive.

Sounds like it is time to change the PSU. The i700 is a budget PSU and low quality. What is the rest of your system?

For most systems this will be enough.

unit should not make any noise. some units may if the fan is pushed into the power supply shield. i would take the unit and with some daylight and a good led flashlight check to see that the fan wires are not pinched or cut. also check that the power supply thumb screws were not to long and drilled into the power supply pcb or a part. the last is to check see if the unit wires have plastic shrink wrap over the bare leads where they go into the supply or the power switch. if not one of the bare wires may be shorting to the metal case of the power supply.

i7 4790k, gtx 970, everything else is pretty high end. I don't have a budget for a new psu right now and everything seems to be working fine. The thing is this noise have been there for the last 2 years and I just havent notice it till now. I just want to know from someone with experience, does this mean a failure of psu? I have searched and to my knowledge most people with a failing psu tends to have problems with their other hardware as well. I don't, I have benchmark for hours both cpu and gpu and I havent seen any problems arise. All my voltage seems great the psu fan is cooling it so i dont think over heating is an issue. I would only want to change if the problem is a serious issue and my budget is tight but I want a gold certified modular psu

You should save up and get one of these. It is a high quality PSU and that is what you need for a medium-high end build. This PSU is rated Tier 1 and much higher quality than your current one. It is the cheapest Tier 1 PSU right now.

I will just keep using this for now and get a modular psu during black friday or something, since it is still working fine it doesnt bother me much. Im just worry that it will blow my pc up one day, what are the chances of that happening?

This is from my old budget build so that is why it wasnt the best psu, I will probably end up going for the evga g2 750w as I plan to sli later on when the 970 isnt viable anymore, but this is good for now. I just hope it would last me 5 more months and I think it will, but I wonder what the problem really is, it happens randomly and slowly goes away and the only way to stop it is to loosen the screws on the back. It is not audible when I have my pc run at normal speed and is only audible when the pc is whisper quiet. Hmm well I think I will just wait for the g2 or nex from evga to lower in price and just go with the 750w or even 850 but that is a bit overkill in my opinion.
