970 vs. 990fx Chipset Mobos

So this is kind of a 2 part question. 1st, whats the difference between the 2 chipsets? I know the 990fx is usually higher quality than the 970, but are there any other differences?

#2. whats the difference between these 2 boards?

They both look like good motherboards, but which one is the better choice for some overclocking my CPU/GPU? Thanks for both my questions!

the 990fx chipset like you said is typically higher quality and its also more up to date with handling FX Processors. Depending on which cpu you have really. Gigabyte is better known for OCing but its a 970 chipset. The MSI board is a nice average board IMO but isnt as well known for OCing.

Sorry was having a bit of mind fart moment there haha. It's late for me hahaha. Yeah that board should be absolutely fine for what you want to do with it :). I'm using a AsRock 990Fx killer with my 8350 but i'm still to do any OCing on it yet.

I would just make sure you have some good after market cooling on there as I'm sure you will. I hated running my 8350 on the stock cooler for a short period. Let alone OCing using it hahaha

If the VRMs do ever overheat depending on how long you have had the board for that is. Try returning it for a refund and get use the money towards getting one with a more capable VRM else you can always buy a new (bigger) heat syncs for the vrms to keep them cool. But all this could defeat the point of you getting the 8320E over the 8350 or 8370

sorry to necro this but im also getting more information about the 2. in other forums, they suggested more the msi 970 gaming as it is cheaper and not much difference. my first choice cpu was fx8350 but they suggested fx8320e instead, again because its cheaper and lower wattage and can achieve the fx8350s performance. I would save about $100 from where I live if I go with their suggestions.

when I checked both the motherboards specs, the 990fx has 5.2gt/s while the 970 has 4.8gts. does this matter? and how would this affect much in performance? second, the 990fx has 8+2 power phase design and 970 has 6+2. also the gigabyte mentioned its digipower while the msi didn't mention it on their page. would it be worth the extra 2 chokes?
