I just got my Evga Gtx 980 ti Sc+ acx yesterday and was doing some test runs with it, i noticed the gpu temp reaching up to 80 degrees on games like witcher 3 and gta 5, and stayed between 74-80 degrees in other games. I touched the card when it was at those temps and i swear i could have made an omellete on them lol. Is this normal?

My system specs are as follows:

i5-3570k @ 3.4 ghz
Gigabyte 1155 intel Z77 motherboard
Cooler Master Hyper 212 plus
16 gb ddr3 ram
600 W seasonic ss-600et power supply

I am just worried that I will run into some issues in the future or have one of my components fry out (its happened in the past lol). Do you think those temps are ok? or if my system has enough cooling? Any advice would be helpful. Thanks!

Solution
Graphics cards are safe up to the upper 80s so don't worry. The 980ti and titan does run higher temps compared to other nvidia gpu's because of the amount of transistors.

Yeah, the stock fan curve is set to keep it quiet. I have the Evga reference 980 ti and without touching anything when I first got it, it always ran up to 83 while playing any games.

I've since overclocked it to 1450 and made a custom fan curve to turn on sooner and at lower temps and it runs at around 73-75 max under full load. It's a little louder with the reference fan but no coil whine and it's not that bad for it being overclocked. Adjust your fan curve some through either evga precision x software or through MSI afterburner. I use afterburner, it's easier and the on screen display is easier.

The reference EVGA runs at 84C

The SC version is the same PCB with a better cooler and it hit 77C

MSI, as expected, runs about 3C cooler at 74C

Gigabyte with a more aggressive fan curve is 70C

To test whether case ventilation is adequate, take of the side panel and use a desk fan to blow air into the case....if temps drop significantly, you'd benefit from more case ventilation.

I might try that, another question. Would my warranty be void if I adjust the fan curve?

Not totally sure but I doubt it, since they make overclocking software that they put out on their website specifically for overclocking and adjusting everything. And 83 is not a temperature to freak out about it, it will throttle itself at 83 but you can change that too in the software if you want, I just don't like it that high myself.

I'm actually going to do that right now, did not have time yesterday and dont want to try anything else before doing a case cooling test. Ill update you if I see any differnces!
