Cosair Spec 01 case worth the cheap price?

Hi all,

I am building my first pc soon and my target budget is 1200-1500 AUD, which is around 900-1200 USD. I was considering the Spec 01 case from Cosair as it is relatively low priced and from what I see looks pretty decent. My I want my pc to do overclocking, support 2 graphic cards, and last around 4-5 years, would the Spec 01 be up to that? Or would there be any other cases that you could recommend at the 50-150ish mark, I would consider paying up to 200 dollars if the case justifies that price.

Thanks! :)

They HAVE good cases, the Spec series just aren't among them. In fact, I wouldn't use any Corsair case below the 200R, which is even cutting it kind of close. Usually, for a comparable price, there are better case choices at any cost level than what Corsair offers at the same price. Sales notwithstanding.
Spec series by Corsair are nice for budget cases, but, they have smaller than average space for tower style air coolers and can not fit a hyper 212 EVO. If you are planning on overclocking you may want to consider a larger case like the Corsair 300R which is similar to the Spec series but a bit bigger and will fit the 212 EVO cooler and others in its size class.

I disagree. Having worked with several of those cases, probably five or six times, I think they're cheap junk, even for Corsair.

Are you in Australia? If so, I'd go with something like this, at minimum.

I agree. I've tried two Corsair cases and I was very disappointed with both. Both were extremely flimsy. For the price it wasn't even remotely acceptable. Its very disappointing they would release such low quality stuff as their cases in general are very good looking.

I haven't had my hands on a spec case (01/02/03) personally so can't say how flimsy they are. Wouldn't expect much for the price. I'd almost gone for one just a cheap upgrade to my old case for better airflow but the unusually narrow width was a deal breaker. Too many coolers sized around the 160mm height range and the spec cases cancel those out.

These look pretty decent as well. They're a bit more expensive than the shinobi but well under $150 aud. I'm a bit partial to the enthoo pro, it's got a lot of nice features. A bit on the larger mid tower size (not quite a full tower) but it's roomy, configurable and supports various fan sizes. Not sure how the looks of any of these appeal to you, that's more a personal taste. I've also gotten a bit spoiled by newer somewhat larger cases that support 140mm fans since they do a good job of moving air while staying nice and quiet. The last one linked, the nzxt s340 is a bit smaller than the other two but will still support the hyper 212 evo or similar coolers (up to 161mm) while the others two won't have any issue supporting coolers up to 183mm tall. The first two also seem to have similar air filters, the enthoo pro is well filtered for sure. More likely to last 4-5yrs through various upgrades/expansion than the spec cases.

Of those, I'd choose the Enthoo Pro, of course, hands down. Great case that I've been using on a lot of builds lately. I think I've done seven builds with it now and have been impressed, especially for the price. Clearly it's in a different price category than the Shinobi though, and for the price, the Shinobi is fairly decent. It's on of the few Bit Fenix cases I actually like. Lots of case choices out there, just make sure you get something that supports at least a 160mm air cooler, unless you intend to use liquid cooling, and then be sure it has radiator support. Also, be sure it has front USB 3.0 support, at least two front, two top and one rear 120 or 140mm fan and has some kind of cable management features. Any case without those things is probably an old design or is a very low end model.
