I'm saving money to build a new computer with a monitor. I want to spend less than $2000 if possible. Mostly it will be used for extremely heavily modded minecraft, light other gaming, light video editing, and normal productivity. I want a 1440p or better display. Ips if possible. I'd want this setup to last several years, and to be very upgradable. For this reason I've considered an x99 setup. I already made a parts list. I would like some feedback.

I've configured this for optimal growing room. I am very receptive to suggestions. Please keep in mind I want this rig to last for at least 2 or three years. Thanks.

ps- I've also considered(but am less open to) waiting for nvidia's pascal architecture to be released in 2016, and for skylake processors. Should I? Would It be worth it?

I agree with Rhezner on this one. That build is way over the top for what you want to do. If you want to spend that much money, that's up to you, but for your outlined needs, I'd do something like this instead. And this is probably overkill too, but it's a rock solid system that should give you MANY years of relevance. The X99 platform is NOT going to increase you gaming performance by much, if at all. The benchmarks and testing on MANY sites, including Tom's support this fact. The only way X99 is going to benefit you for gaming is if you're using dual cards and performance is at such a level that the full x16 on both slots can actually be utilized.

If you wanted to add a GTX 980 TI in place of the regular 980 below, you could, but I...

I want at least 60 fps at 1440p in extremely (200+) modded minecraft. And maybe with shaders. People with much pricier builds don't get that. I'm also planning for this to last for several years. 2 or three without upgrades. I know the specs are excessive, but others have gotten lower than 60fps with more expensive builds.

Admirable
Its probably true that you will need a good CPU depending on your mods. I have a 4790k and a gtx 970 and get less than 60fps when i look at a pen full of 300 chickens that are all crammed together. minecraft can be fairly taxing.

Thanks for your thoughts on the matter. Honestly I thought it was overpowered too. But minecraft messes with your head like that. i will definitely consider using these parts.

With that build, you should be able to game ANY current title at a very high level, and pretty much any application as well. If you were planning to game at 4k, you might want to seriously consider a dual card configuration, but for 1440p, the 980 or 980 TI should be fine.
