Not sure if my hardware is the issue of my slowing down computer...

Hello everyone!

Recently, I have spent a bit of money to get a few minor upgrades on my PC so I could run my games with higher fps and better graphics. My reference point was to be able to run Borderlands 2 completely maxed out with at least 60 fps. Everything worked fine and I was super happy. Time has passed and now, I tried to play borderlands again. I have got a pretty bad surprise when I saw how it was a complete flippin' mess when I tried to play again. I am having barely 30-40 fps and I am suspecting my hard drive to be the problem in all of this. My computer has an extremely slow startup, my specs are fine and I am having the same problem in pretty much every game that the environment is big and in environments where a lot is going on at the same time (Planetside 2 and GTA V!!)...

Here are my specs :
AMD Radeon R9 270x
AMD FX-4300 (Quad core processor with 3.80 GHz)
8GB of RAM
Windows 8 64 bit
ST3500418AS ATA 500 GB (Hard drive)

I have tried clearing up background apps, cleaning up a bit my hardware (old files and stuff), I am careful about viruses and such, in other words, I would please like to know if it's time for me to change something in my computer or if theres is something I can fix in it and such (you get the point :p).

Thank you in advance,
Best regards,
Reys

Go to device manager under the hdd / details tab / change it to hardware ids. What firmware is on it now?

The last 2 letters and numbers is the firmware. If its under CC49 update the firmware on it

The firmware update is here

You can either run the exe in windows (make sure you dont shut windows down). Otherwise it'll brick it

Or use the ISO

I would also update this to 8.1

Hi, thank you very much for your fast answer. I have done what you told me but I'm a bit confused on what is supposed to be the firmware... Here, take a look ; http://imgur.com/atwPIXs . I'm being shown lots of things but I'm pretty sure I'll have to update it anyways (It's a really old hard drive). As for the Windows 8.1, I had updated it, I just didn't say it (oops).

Anyways, thanks again, hope to see another response soon :)
