Blue screen errors and boot problems

Hi!
I ran into a strange problem: every once in a while Windows crashes with a blue screen of death, and does not restart, because it can't find the BOOTMGR. When I check the bios, I see that it does not recognise my WD Blue 1Tb (where windows is installed). After a few minutes it boots perfectly but this comes up again randomly: sometimes multiple times a week, sometimes it works fine for a month.

I'm not sure what causes the problem so I don't know where to ask this, but I hope you can tell me what's wrong. I have an Asus M5A99X evo r2.0 Mobo with an AMD FX-8320 cpu, and Windows 8.1 installed on the WD Blue 1TB WD10EZEX.

Solution
Sounds like either a failing hdd or a corruption in the operating system. Right click on your disc drive and do a health report make sure its all fine, not overheating etc. If its not slowing down massively or making funny noises then id suggest reinstalling windows (I know its a hassle but has to be done sometimes)

I did the health check, I even ran a WD Lifeguard Diagnostic but everything seems fine. No strange noises, no overheating. (The drive is less than a year old, so it would surprise me if it's already failing). I'll reinstall windows and see... but if I can't find the drive in the BIOS, than how can it be a windows problem?

Hey there, Metarp!

I'm truly sorry to hear about your issues with the system! :( However, glad to see that there's nothing wrong with the WD Blue.
I'd suggest you to boot into your Windows installation media and choose the Repair Options. Once you are there, you should select the Command Prompt and type these commands:
bootrec /fixmbr
bootrec /fixboot
bootrec /rebuildbcd

Here's an article from MS KB that might suggest you a couple of other methods to fix this: https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/kb/2622803

Hope it helps. Good luck! :)
