Hello

Nearly 2 years ago a friend built my PC for me, I technically helped, but he did most of the work. I watched, handed him tools, and just tried to learn as much as possible. Anyways, this was before I had a job so money was an issue at the time.

Now that I have some money laying around I want to upgrade if possible, I'd like to avoid doing an entirely new build. The most I'm willing to spend on new parts total is around $800 - $1000. I opened up my computer last night and re-examined what parts I have. The 660ti has maybe 1.5 2 inches of space length wise, the width isn't an issue.

I browsed newegg and also looked up compatible graphics upgrades. I have my eyes on the 980 or the 980ti. However, the 980 is too long to fit I think.

Would my PC be bottle-necked by the motherboard or CPU were I to get a 980 or 980ti?

Here's links to the various GPUs on newegg for your convenience.
980
980ti

Current Specs:
- Motherboard: ASRock Z87 PRO4
- Processor: Intel Core i5-4670K 3.4GHz
- GPU: I have a 660ti which I forgot the specifics of, all I know is that it's an ASUS
- 8GB RAM
- PSU: Antec EA-650 Green 650W
- Case (I know I cheaped out on the case, the idea behind this build was most performance for the money.)
- 500GB Hard Drive

I only play on 1080p monitor.

All advice or criticisms welcome! Thanks!

The 980TI might have slight bottleneck without cpu overclock.
But if you were to overclock the cpu to around 3.8-4Ghz (very safe clock speeds for an 4670K), it wouldn't be bottleneck anymore.

The PSU however also requires an upgrade no matter which gpu you take.
Both 980TI and 980 will fit in your case.

You probably are not going to do 1440p or 4K gaming, so GTX980Ti might be overkill for you.
Go with MSI Gaming 4G GTX 980. It will fit in your case as it is.

And since your budget is up to 1000$, you can add 240-256Gb SSD to speed up game loading times and boot up.

So your "shopping list" would be like so:

- MSI Gaming 4G GTX 980 - 520$
- XFX/Seasonic/EVGA Gold 80+ 600/650W PSU - 100$
- Crucial/Samsung 240-256Gb SSD - 100$

total: 720$

Would I want to overclock CPU for the plain 980? And what size PSU do you suggest? I guess I should have put as well that I only play on 1080p monitor 60hz.

CPU dosn't really need overclocking, it might help to improve minimum fps a little. it's still a quite capable CPU.

GPU upgrade will be a nice upgrade and will certainly give you a large boost in gaming performance, however I noticed you didn't list an SSD. Installing an SSD could be really a worthwhile upgrade too.

650w PSU is enough to run a 980ti.

Well, you might want to put it up to 3.5-3.6Ghz.
So it will be pretty much i5 4690K level.

And 650W is the safest bet.
