My PC:Gigabyte H97m-D3H, Intel i-4170 cpu, 2x4gb g.skill ddr3 1600mhz RAM, Seagate Barracuda ST10000DM003 1tb hdd, samsung sh-224db dvd-writer, sapphire radeon r9 270x 2gb graphics card, Corsair 200r case, Antec Classic TruePower 550w PSU. Windows 8.1 64 bit OEM

I built my computer, turned it on, it worked, went into BIOS, everything seemed fine. Hard part over. I exited the BIOS without changing anything apart from the system time/date, put in my Windows 8.1 dvd and hit a key when I got a message which ended with "insert boot media in selected boot device and press any key" message. A little while later it rebooted and I had to hit a key at "press any button to boot from DVD"

A couple of times a broken spinning circle appeared followed immediately by my computer rebooting and me having to repeat the same process. Finally I entered Windows setup, entered product key, and installed Windows. Windows needed to restart to continue and rebooted- I then ended up with my Gigabyte mobo logo with half a stuck spinning circle at the bottom. I waited for a couple of minutes but nothing happened. Moved my mouse and multi-coloured horizontal lines appeared on the screen.
I rebooted my machine and this time things seemed to work- Under the Gigabyte logo the broken circle was spinning and "getting devices ready", "getting ready" messages appeared.
I then got a "Windows setup could not configure to run on the systems hardware followed by a "Windows could not complete the installation. To install Windows on this computer restart the installation"

I went into my Bios and noticed that whereas before there was just my hard drive and dvd listed in the boot option priorities it was now 1.windows boot manager. 2 my dvd with "UEFI" before it. 3 my DVD. 4 my hard drive. Under Boot Overide it was DVd, hard drive, UEFI: dvd and windows boot manager. I looked around the BIOS a bit more and then noticed that Boot Option priorities under "Bios features" had disappeared when I had only been looking at it about 30 seconds earlier. Feeling more panicky than before and worried I'd hit a wrong button somewhere I quit without saving, re-entered the BIOS and checked again. Boot option priorities was back but this time minus the UEFI duplicate of my DVD. The UEFI DVD was also absent from the Boot overide priorities.
At this point I turned off my computer.

What has happened and what I need to do to install Windows 8.1? Do I need to change anything in the BIOS?

Thanks in advance.

I decided to try to install Windows again.

I put the Windows DVD in the drive, went into the bios, selected "Windows 8" under "Windows 8 features" instead of the default "other OS". Switched CSM support to Never so it would only support UEFI boot process. Selected my DVD writer (which had UEFI in front of it) it from the "Boot Override" menu and rebooted. Everything went smoothly, I deleted the partitions, highlighted the unallocated space and selected "new, apply, ok" which automatically created 4 partitions which it seems like its supposed to do with UEFI. I selected the primary partition and Windows began installing. After finishing it said my system would restart which it did.

I then got the Gigabyte logo with the spinning circle below it for a few mintues until a new error message appeared on the screen "the computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows installation cannot proceed. To install Windows click OK to restart the computer then restart the installation". Clicking OK just brings back the same error message after the computer reboots.

Any ideas what went wrong this time?- thanks in advance.
