FPS issues after GPU upgrade

I built my first PC, with some guidance from a friend, back in Nov 2012. I could always get pretty solid FPS numbers and seemed to be in a good place. Recently my Radeon HD 7850 GPU went bad and I decided to upgrade to an nVidia GTX 980 (I also upgraded the power supply).

However, after upgrading I have noticed a decrease, not an increase in FPS in games I have played on both cards. An example being SW:tOR - I am only getting about 20fps on high right now. I am certain that the card is not overheating and that the drivers are correct and up to date. What am I missing?

Specs
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit (6.1, Build 7601)

CPU: i7-3770K @ 3.50GHz (8 CPUs), ~3.9GHz

Memory: 8192MB RAM

GPU: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 980

Power Supply: Antec 900W

Additionally, my primary hard drive is a 128GB SSD, plus a 1TB slave drive. Whatever my primary game is at the time, I keep it on my SSD.

Solution
Perhaps you are running an antivirus in the background or another program is hogging the RAM or CPU or even the GPU.Other than that there shouldn't be a problem
