I have a question on an upgrade of Windows 8.1. I currently have a OEM version of Windows 8, and I am going to transfer all my components to a new motherboard, which is a BIOSTAR B75MU3B. Is it possible to transfer all the components including the OEM Windows 8 onto the new mobo and then downloading the Windows 8.1 off the Microsoft Store?

Solution

If by "OEM" you mean that Windows was supplied with a prebuilt machine, like Dell, then NO. You will not be able to make it work with a new mobo.

If you mean the OEM versions that you buy separately at Newegg or other stores, then YES, you will be able to transfer it over. Just be sure that you only use it on one machine.
