I was charging my s3 which must of been there for a couple of hours charging, came back and it wouldnt switch on. it was also warm as well because it was in the sun

A phone that's too hot, may not start. They have some overheating protections just like other hardware. I'd allow it to cool off and try it again. If it still fails to start, you probably have either a bad battery or charging cable. Maybe try another battery or charger. It's at least somewhat likely to have been due to the temperature though if it was in direct sunlight for a long period, PLUS was charging.
