What CPU / GPU should I get to max out games at 1080p at 60 FPS?

I need a build that will last me a long time, with quality components. My main requirement is that I will be able to max out most/all games at 1080p with 60 + FPS. Budget isn't too big of an issue, and aesthetics are also somewhat important (Like, I'm going for a windowed case, so I kind of want a solid color scheme, like red on matte black, or the NVIDIA green on matte black).

Now, I won't be playing CS:GO or League here, I'm talking ARMA III, Battlefield 4 (and 5), Grand Theft Auto 5, etc.

My current build is:
- AMD Athlon X4 760k @ 3.8 GHZ
- Sapphire Radeon R7 260X OC Edition
- MSI A78M E35
- 8GB Crucial Ballistix Sport RAM
- Corsair CX 430

The graphics cards that I was looking at were either a single GTX 980, or two R9 290X's running CrossFire. The 290's would have more power and run me about $300 more, which isn't going to be the best tradeoff, but I wouldn't be able to downscale the resolution from 1440p (I don't know what it's called, if you could let me know that would be great).

My monitor is a 60 Hz IPS display at 23", so I really don't need to go higher on the FPS.

I also know about the 970, but did some research and it didn't quite max out games. I'm looking to do 8x MSAA with full distance rendering on DayZ (Used that as an example cause it is very poorly optimized).

As for the CPU, I was thinking either a high-end i5, or a mid i7. The rest of the specs are kind of in my head, like a 800-900 Watt modular PSU, either 8GB DDR4 RAM or 16GB DDR3, and whatever motherboard fits with the GPU color scheme (a high-end one).

Also - There was some SSD that I had heard of (I think it was a Samsung one) that was supposed to be super fast. Just something like 120GB to install Windows on would be helpful. If anyone knows of one that is super fast and isn't Samsung or strictly 120GBs, I'm open to ideas. I would just prefer that it would be a high-end one and be somewhere around the 100-164GB area.

[I have two 1TB WDC Blacks currently, so HDDs are covered]

If someone could recommend a full build that meets the color scheme and doesn't bottleneck anything, I greatly thank you. But, I am open to suggestions! :)

Solution
Well i will recommend this:
Z97 rog either ranger or hero
I5 or i7 k version ofc
G skill trident x 2400 you can go 4x4 if youlike all the slots populated or 2x8
Get an Raijintek triton red colour cpu cooler for the looks the price and the performance
For ssd i suggest plextor 256 m6e pcei black edition suits the scheme perfect and its fast!!
Gpu:
290x matrix its an eye candy also cheap
If you can afford 980 matrix or 980 poseidon!which you can connect with the raijintek triton and make the rig super cool!!!
Also 390x strix if you like radeons or 980 ti strix if you really have that money!!
Last but not least - evga supernova g2 - its the king of psus, totally recommend that!! 750 or higher will be more than enought
Hope this helps
An i5 should be fine for gaming. If you interested in overclocking the cpu, get the i5 4690k with a Z97 motherboard and a decent cpu cooler. An i7 is not necessary for 60fps gaming but if you got the money to spend on it then it's your choice.
The GTX 980Ti is fine for 1440p ultra 60fps for most games if they are optimised.
Your current 8GB is probably fine to reuse if you are sticking with 8GB.
For the PSU for a single gpu build, a decent 650W will be enough such as the EVGA GS 650W. For an SLI/crossfire, go with at least a 1000W psu.

SSD:
The 850 EVO is a solid choice as well as Crucial MX100/MX200. You only got 120/128GB or 250/256GB capacity. If you installing a couple of AAA titles such as GTA V on the SSD, go with the 250/256GB SSD
