I have currently a i7 4770k processor with the MSi Z87M -G43 so I want to upgrade to the 5960X and wanted to know if I'm good to go with my current MO or I need to upgrade it too? Thanks in advance.

Solution
No. Not at all. X99 is not a good option unless you NEED it for rendering. If you would upgrade to a 5960x you would need new mobo+RAM+likely a PSU+possibly a case. I have the sister CPU to the 5960x and I get no benefit to a decent i5 in gaming.

Damn this sucks :(... Thanks for the quick reply. My intentions are for gaming purposes and general use only as I wanted to expand my performance. I have a GTX 980 but I still can't get a solid 60 FPS on certain games so I thought that might be a good one... Guess not lol. Still, can you recommend something for me to upgrade on my rig then? My Full Specs Are:

i7 4770k Processor
MSi Z87M -G43 Mobo
2x 4 GB DDR3 RAM Sticks
500 GB HDD
1000 GB HDD (for gaming storage)
500W PSU

I don't think that there's something wrong, really. I play GTA V at mostly Ultra except for the Grass and AA which is only FXAA and running in "3,5K" I guess as I'm using frame scaling to 1,5x the resolution (but these settings are the same as having frame scaling off and using 4X MSAA) I'm OC'ing my GPU to 1,5Ghz Clock Speed and 4,15 Ghz Memory Speed and mostly I get above 60 FPS, but there are these parts where I get like 48 FPS and it annoys me. The GPU usage is 98% on 66ºC avg and the CPU usage is 60% avg for the first core and 40% avg for the second (I haven't checked all of them) and my CPU gets really hot, with 72ºC on avg.

That's a pretty expensive fix hahaha. I'll have to buy a new PSU for it aswell... And I didn't know I could mix 980 with 980ti it makes sense lol. Thanks for the help, I appreciate it
