Specs

Dell XPS

q9450 quad core intel duo 2
4gb corsair dominator OC to 1333 mhz
2x 9800 GT SLI
800w power supply 2x 6 pin power pins that i can see so far

Looking for either some aftermarket coolers for the 9800 GT's because these guys run way too hot.
Or 2x cards that won't be bottle necked by the q9450, or bottle necked to harshly.
I was thinking of 2x GTX 560's?
Let me know your thoughts/ideas

alway with gpu try and use one fast gpu. if you have the money pick up the 960 or the 280x. if you buy a newer mb or rebuild you can always take the newer gpu with you to the next build. you want a gpu that will run drix12 when it comes out this year.

I already have a comp that i spent over 1k on. This comp is just for my GF who doesnt want the absolute best graphics in the world, she just wants to play games. And the 280x/960 will be bottlenecked imo. My FX-6300 bottlenecks 960's all day at stock speeds

a single 750 ti

that cpu bottlenecks anything more

What about older gen cards? 750ti is just gonna bog the whole system down and fighting left and right. Right now as it sits the SLI 9800GT's are running almost everything i throw at it just about at medium settings. They just run hot unless i put them at 75% fan speed

rip the newer gpu the 550ti and higher use less power and run cooler. the 550ti would run 50c under load and the 650ti would run even less. the 9000/200 cards are the same gpu chip there just dye shrink. I had an older 200 card and it ran hot (50c) with no load. you could put in two 740 cards and each card now has more gpu cuda cores then the older cards and will run newer dirx12 games and not break the bank.

It's counterproductive to run older gen cards.
As of now, both of your cards suck a combined 250W from your power supply, minimum. The 750Ti is a 60W card, and it doesn't have a 6 pin connector. So it'll never go above 75W. Dead quiet and runs cool, too. On top of that, it'll give you a 50-100% boost over your current cards combined. If you are not looking to pair the card with a more modern CPU in the future, it's not advisable to go for a faster card anyway.

bog everything down?

I don't think you understand, the 750 ti is FASTER than your current setup, your limiting factor is the cpu.

750 Ti is out of my budget atm. And im not gonna switch out the cpu when there's no need. It runs just fine, newegg has the 750ti's averaging between 130-200 i can pick up 2x 560's for 80 bucks right now and just sli them......... *Bing* derp.....

lordy... would have helped everyone not waste their time if you specified used cards were ok...

so again a used 750 ti, it is ~30% faster than a 560.

560 sli would be bottlenecked by that cpu
