I am planning to upgrade from an FX 8350 so a core i7 4790 K

Along with a ASUS Sabertooth Mark s motherboard this will be part of a white themed build

I do know skylake is being released this year but I'll go over budget with the new released motherboards and ddr4 ram ect ect so is the i7 4790k still a good upgrade

Either a 4690k or 4790k would be an upgrade. The 4790k for sure. It's hard to get a white motherboard so I can understand from a style aspect but if concerned about saving money on the build there are plenty of motherboards just as good that don't cost $270. That's a healthy $130 over spend for a white color theme. Don't get me wrong, it's not a bad board at all. But at that price, it better be a good board.

The i7-4790k is a big upgrade from the FX-8350. You'll be increasing CPU processing power, and saving electrical power by dropping from a 130w processor to a 90w CPU. Next, it does NOT come with Iris Pro graphics. The i7-4790k comes with HD4600 graphics, and if you want the IRIS PRO you'd need the Broadwell quad core (i7-5775C) which is a LGA-1150 socket part.

Thing is, while the Iris Pro is a significant upgrade to the HD graphics, it still pales compared to your typical discrete GPUs.
