Can a cold cathode damage your parts if it is sealed in a plastic tube?

I got this cold cathode that is sealed in a plastic tube. I heard that cold cathodes can damage parts. Does it pose any risk to my gpu where it's mounted on the backplate?

It's rare but they can "explode". Odds of something be harmed I'd say are very low. As it's more of a pop, than an explosion with force behind it.

If I'm not mistaken, CCFL tubes used to be used in laptop screens before they went LED. If you're putting in cheap ones, I'd be careful about connecting it up to your PSU as it would be a shame to burn your PSU over cheap lighting. Anything you'd buy I would hope would have it's own independent power supply.

CCFL's require an inverter to be able to run them. The inverter converts +12VDC into 680VAC, 5mA.

The plastic tube is to contain the glass CCFL tube if it should ever rupture.
