This is going to be a pretty long explanation, but PLEASE stick with me. If nothing else, read the summary at the bottom.

So I've had this custom build for over a year and a half now, with no problems. I have upgraded the GPU and PSU about 2 or 3 months ago, and it's still been working like a charm since then - until now.

Today I decided to open MSI Afterburner to mess around with the settings (I now know I should never have done that in the first place). I made the stupid decision to increase the clock speeds of both my RAM and GPU as high as they would go, and I set the fan to adjust accordingly. I will now slap myself in the face infinitely for this.

I applied the settings, and boom. Immediately a pink screen appears across my monitor. It was sort of a washed-out pink with vertical bluish-grey bars.

I restarted my PC, and went back to afterburner. I now set the clock speeds of my RAM and GPU as low as possible. It seemed to work fine when I applied it, until I opened up chrome. A few seconds after I did, it crashed again with the same pink screen.

I did another hard reset. I booted up in safe mode this time. I went to afterburner and discovered the clock settings were locked on the lowest possible. I closed that, and went to control panel. I performed a system restore. It restored back to a windows update that took place 2 days ago. It restored successfully. However, After a few mins it crashed again - this time with a washed-out purple color and the same vertical bars.

I did another hard reset, and booted in safe mode again. Opened some stuff, crashed with the purple screen again.

One hard reset later, I booted in normal mode. I opened chrome so that I could try using a previous amd driver (I believe Ive been using the 15.4 beta amd driver for about a month now with no problems. I originally updated to this driver to fix lag issues in gta 5). I ended up crashing before I could install a previous driver. This time it was a completely white screen, no vertical bars.

I've tried a couple more times to install previous drivers, but I can never get to the download before crashing with either a pink, purple, or white screen. It crashes after approximately 2 mins each time. I'm having my doubts about it being a driver problem in the first place, since I've been using it for at least a month now.

I'm thinking it must be a clocking problem. But ever since I did the system restore, now I can't open MSI afterburner. It gives me the error message: "some of MSI afterburner components are expired, missing, or corrupted!"

Please help me, I don't know what to do ;-;

**SUMMARY**
After overclocking my GPU and RAM as high as possible with MSI Afterburner (dumb mistake), it crashed with a pink screen. Now every time I boot up my PC in either safe or normal mode, 2 mins later it crashes and shows just a pink, purple, or white screen. The only way to get back to the desktop is to perform a hard reset. I was able to set my clock speeds all the way down once, although now I can't open afterburner and I don't know if its at the default clock speed or lowest clock speed when I boot up my PC. Either way, something is very wrong here. I literally only have 40 bucks, so getting new parts is not an option. PLEASE help me, you're my only hope ;-;

Have you tried using Last Known Good Configuration? It may fix some of your drivers you wanted to roll back. If that doesn't work, try unplugging and plugging back your GPU and RAM into your motherboard. I'm not much of an expert (sort of a noob), but I hope this helps. Also, try to run Memory Diagnostic if you haven't. :)

Hello, and thank you so much for your response. I have tried my last known good config, still the same issue. I'll try unplugging and plugging my GPU and RAM, although I'm fairly skeptical about if that will do anything or not. Running the memory diagnostic sounds like a good idea, but how do I do that? I'm a noob too XD thanks.

To run The Memory Diagnostic test, after you started your computer and after the motherboard image, repeatedly click F8. A window will pop up with all the options (including Last Known Good Configuration). Select Repair your computer. Then you will have 5 options, right? Go down to the fourth, you'll see it! ;) Hope this also helps.
PS: If none of these things work for you, I'm afraid you must have damaged your GPU. But hey, don't listen to me only - remember, still a noob XD! Go search on other forums for help if there are any other ways to fix that issue. :)

Thanks again, that actually didnt fix the problem, but I figured it out. It was pretty simple actually! I was finally able to find the MSi Afterburner installer in my hard drive, so I reinstalled it. I ran it and it told me restarting would help it detect my configuration. I did so, and opened it again, and all the settings were back to normal. I haven't had any problems since then :) thank you so much for your help though! I chose your answer as the best :p
