Hi guys

I had a go at building my first PC a while back and all seemed to be ok, but i'm getting freezes and sometimes my monitor will go black and then turn on again with "HDMI 1" showing like its just been plugged in.

Now i've already learnt that i probably shouldn't have bothered with the 9590 and just gone with a 8350 but too late!

The chip seems to be running really hot as well, i don't think the closed loop water cooling i have is good enough, on stress test it reach 80c and just froze the system. Do i need better water cooling such as the kracken, do you think and a more power PSU?

My specs are below:

- Inno3D GeForce GTX 780 iChill HerculeZ X3 Ultra DHS Edition 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
- AMD Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 9590 Black Edition 4.70GHz (5.00GHz Turbo) (Socket AM3+) Processor - OEM
- OCZ Vector 150 Series 19nm 240GB 2.5" SATA 6Gbs Solid State Hard Drive - Retail (VTR150-25SAT3-240G)
- Corsair Dominator PLATINUM 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C9 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit with DHX Pro Connector (CMD8GX3M2A2133C9)
- Seasonic G series 750w '80 Plus Gold' Modular Power Supply
- NZXT Phantom Enthusiast USB3.0 Full Tower Case - OrangeBlack
- Antec Kúhler H2O 1250 Liquid CPU Cooler
- MSI 990FXA-GD65 AMD 990 FX (AMD AM3AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

Thank you for any help.

The 9590 is slower than a i5 in games and waists so much power while requiring water cooling. You do need a 750w and a decent one at that. The 9590 is probably the least cost effective CPU ever made in the last 8 years and worst. 80 is hot so you need a better cooler. Look for custom loops or try and find a swiftech h240 x. You have a okay PSU you just need more cooling. The middle range i5 out performs the 9590 in games.

While i agree for the most part that was a bit harsh lol. AMD sure does recommend a 1000w psu for the 9590 not sure why im pretty sure a good 750watt psu would be plenty.

I think the reason why AMD recommends a 1000W PSU is because they think you'll be doing extreme overclocking, or using multiple graphic cards with such a powerful processor. I mean, it's not that powerful, but to them it is. In reality, the whole build itself draws only around 500-550W. Throw in another 780 and thats when you'll need a 1000W.

Ok thanks for the answers, i've had the pc for over 12 months now so returning it is out of the question. But if i genuinely would be better off switching to a intel based system i'm will to put in the investment. This one just seems unstable and i'm not sure whether its my build or the choice of components.

Yeah, go for the Intel processor, or just downgrade to an FX 8350.
