High ambient CPU temp. What should I do?

The rest of my system runs at impressively low temperatures for fan cooling, but my CPU typically runs at 50-60 degrees celsius, and when rendering occasionally breaks 100. Now that I know this, I don't feel safe stressing it out anymore, so what would you guys recommend? I have a generic, crappy Intel cooler, should I upgrade to something more high-brow? If so, what?

Update: I don't think I'll be able to respond to anything tonight, I really need to go to bed.

Solution
Well 50-60 degrees is completely fine but over 100 is major overheating. I have an Intel i5-4690K and the Intel stock cooler and have never gone above 60 degrees. Once you get over about 80 degrees you start to cause damage to your CPU, so 100 degrees means you have probably damaged it already.

1) Re-apply the thermal paste
2) Buy a new cooler - Cooler Master Hyper Evo 212 (not that expensive but great cooler)
3) Check all your fans and case fans are working correctly
4) Download and use Speedfan to change the fan speeds to make things cool down

Please list your components.

If its a Haswell you may see high temperature with a boxed cooler, because crappy thermal paste is used between CPU die and heatspreader instead of being soldered and the boxed cooler not being great anyway. Also your cooler might not be seated properly, if you even have such high temps in idle.
And no, the CPU wont take damage from that. There are enough safety functions in there preventing that. But it will throttle beyond 80 C, which means you will lose performance temporarily.
