I have had problem with my new 8 week old setup with the display artifacting and going all one color and freezing. It started artifacting in windows but a few boots later and it was on the main boot cycle as we'll. I reseated my card to no avail. Fans all spinning and Temps where all fine around 30c before and during the problem. The fault would happen at different times making me think part of the vram became corrupted? Took my graphics card out and on itegrated graphics now working fine, windows said it was graphics hardware failure. I have since returned my gtx 970 and recived a refund. Is this just a bad Graphics card and safe to just get another gtx 970, bit reluctant when this one only lasted 8 weeks.

As I understand your question is if is ok to by again GTX 970?
Nothing is perfect and the warranty is exactly for that reason, so I don't see any reason not to buy again a GTX 970 card.
In most cases when a component has a problem this problem will appear in the first 1-2 months, so there is nothing to worry.

Dude failures happen, my gtx 780, had vram failure after 1.5 years. Get gigabyte gtx 970, i hear they have lowest rma rates in industry, or get EVGA they have lifetime guarantee, which is one of the best guarantees you can get.

Another issue is to make sure you have a good power supply, bad power supply can significantly shorten component life.
