I am I'm the process of building a whole new pc and woukd like to keep my case as it is a full atx case anyway.

But the case has 2 x usb 2.0 slots/audio connectors on the front at the bottom is it possible to change these to usb 3.0 or not as they come built into the case?

Some model of cases, the manufacturer does supply alternative front usb port assemblies to update the case from USB2 to USB3, but very few.

I suspect as mentioned above, you will need to purchase as usb3 pci-e card to provide the headers or a motherboard than already has the headers and then a front bay module to provide the actual USB3 cable connections.

The board I am looking at is a Gigabyte Z97X-Gaming 5.

This comes with usb 3.0 header but my current pc has usb 2.0 ports at the front.

I am aware that I can get a pci card and get a card to fit in the 2.5 inch location under the disc drives but I would prefer if possible to take out the usb 2.0 connectors at the bottom of the case and install usb 3.0, would it be better if I get a photo of what I mean?

@mcnumpty23 where would I find the case make as it isn't like a cooler master with a logo on.

I couldn't really dremel as the flap then wouldn't work its looking more and more like a card but I am confused as some comments say pci surely I can just use the header?

Internal I/O:1 x 24pin (V)4 x 4pin Fan (V)1 x 8pin (V)1 x FP Audio Header6 x SATA III - 6Gb/s1 x Serial (COM) Header1 x SPDIF-Out Header1 x TPM Header2 x USB 2.0 Header1 x USB 3.0 Header

So this board does come with a usb 3.0 header so I would just use that and then I could usb 2.0 header on the board for the 2 current usb ports on the pc (although I won't use them I doubt and I don't know what effect this woukd have on the psu) at the moment I have a 500w ezcool but when I have my new rig up and running I will be upgrading that to a seasonic 750w.

does your new motherboard have USB 3 ports on the back connector panel? if it does, do you need ports on the front as well? i'd leave the existing ports there,
if you don't want to spoil the appearance of the front of your pc with USB ports in a drive bay, you could try and find a PCI slot USB thing. it'll sit at the back, under your GPU, but connected to the headers, not a PCI slot.
i'll see if i can find an example...

Yea I have rear usb 3.0 ports on the board but was looking at something for The front more for convienece but without damaging the case. I have looked for a front io but I don't know my case make as it isn't labelled any where so I think the only way around this would be buying a card to go in the 2.5 slot or under my disc drive which connects to a header (which the board has on it) so don't need a pci card for this.
