Hey guy's

I had a question about gpu's. I was reading that SLI most of the time isn't worth it and give's more trouble then anything and that one solid gpu is better then two.Even the performance gain can be very minimal to almost worse. Some of the articles were a little old so is this still true ?? I'm looking for personal experience to help me out.

I was thinking of going two 980 ti's or maybe one titan ??

Also I was thinking of going for a custom water loop. What are the best kind of cards that overclock well with water cooling ??

Thanks in advanced !

Solution

for 3 x 1440p at very high/max settings you will need to sli in my opinion

you arent wasting your money

if you wanted a setup where one gpu could do it then yes sli would be wasting money

sli has some issues...

Thanks for all the reply's so far !

Is SLI really worth it ?? My local computer store said that I would be wasting my money ?? ( I'm not that tech savey is why I'm asking ) I just love to game and just want the best gaming experience.

Also do certain cards run better then others for a custom water loop ?? like I know you can buy evga one's with waterblock's already but would that be better then getting a classified for example and adding a water block ??

edit: After researching a little more I will be going 1440p 3x

You could wait to see what comes out next year with both amd and nvidia and see how much the gains will be with the new cards they are lowering to 16 nm I think or thereabouts but you could do that every year if you wanted too. Right now 980 ti is pretty much the same as titan x and they are top of the food chain for single cards, except vram and it overclocks and water cools just fine.

Yeah you might have some issues sli with certain games but they are supposedly supposed to make sli more friendly in win 10 and dx12 but who knows what they really will do. If there are a few games you play more than others, I would do some research in regards to how they perform under sli. 3 4k monitors need 2 980 ti or 2 titanx at least but probably wont handle it too well, but they should handle 3 at 1440p.

sli has some issues but unless you want to wait for pascal cards to see what they can do 2 x 980ti would be my choice
