Hey,
I was recently recommended a asus r7 260x by the good people of tomshardware based on my specs and needs and today it arrived.

To my surprise it turns out my PSU only provides 350W of the recommended 500W and does not have a PCI-E Connector to insert into the graphic card. Regardless, the GPU fans are functional when inserting the GPU into my computer.

My motherboard should support PCI-E 2.0 and i have read that it is compatible with the PCI-E 3.0 in the graphic card.

My question is, do you think buying a 500W PSU will make the card function or are there other issues i should test before throwing money at the problem? it should be noted that i am a really poor student and the GPU almost emptied out my bank account :(

spec:
CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-2600 CPU @ 3.40 GHz
PSU: AcBel HBA005-ZA1GT 350W ATX PSU Power Supply
Motherboard: ASUSTek CM6630_CM6730_CM6830

Thank you for your advice!

TLDR: New asus r7 260x not displaying anything on screen despite fans functioning. Is my old 350W PSU (500 recommended) without PCI-E connector the problem or could other things be causing this?

Solution
Yes you need the power supply to be enough to support the card (and have the required PCI-E cable(s). At the moment all you are seeing is a little power supplied through the PCI-E 16 2.0 slot. It will turn the fans but that's about it, I wouldn't run it like that and the 350 isn't enough, if somebody tells you to just get an adapter and connect the PCI-E to a couple of the molex connectors. Get a good PSU 450 or better with at least 19AMPs on the 12 volt rail and proper PCI-E cables
