Hello,
I am looking for advices and ideas how to upgrade my current gaming PC:

MB: ASUS M5A97 R2.0
CPU: AMD FX-6300 + XIGMATEK Loki II
GPU: GIGABYTE Radeon 779OC-2GD
RAM: 8GB - Kingston HyperX 4GB DDR3 1333MHz CL9 + 4GB (2x2GB) older Kingstone but also 1333 MHz and CL9
PSU: 550 W (LC POWER LC550-550W/PFC) //quite old
HHD: SSD OZC ARC 250 GB with Windows 7 Ultimate + 2x older HDD for other data

I am playing with 1080p resolution, mostly MMORPGs, MOBAs and other MP games, and from time to time some good RPG like Witcher 3.

I have problem mostly with MMORPG with constant FPS dropping below 24 during action, usually playing with high textures, but lowest shadows and without bloom, non or minimal AA, HDRR..

--
I think with my spec it should be better, or atleast more stable.

- What do you think about my PC, could there be problem like with old PSU or is it just not good enough?
- Or maybe unlucky with games i play not being well optimized for my spec?

- I am going to play new MMORPG Skyforge, I would like achieve stable 60 FPS or at least super stable 30 FPS with High(est) graphic settings during many player action.
- Lets say i have 400$ (or more if it would worth it) for upgrade, what would you recommend me?

Thanks for any help,

Farwi

For sure upgrade your PSU.

A graphics upgrade is certainly in the cards as well. Depending on the PSU you pick up, you could afford a 970. At worst, you should end up with a 280X.

280X - $200 - 220
290 - $260 - 300
290X - $280 - 320
970 - $320+

Hello Farwi,

There's a number of things that you could upgrade on your system.

From what you're saying, it sounds like one bottleneck is your GPU. I conclude this because textures are handled in GPU and shadows are calculated via processor most of the time. Your GPU isn't a bad entry level GPU, especially for the cost, but it isn't going to handle 1080p as well as some of the newer units out there. I would upgrade that to a decent NVidia graphics card. Maybe a GTX 790.

Next, and probably the biggest thing that jumps out at me is 4GB of ram at 1333MHz. That could definitely use a boost. Modern standard especially for 64bit systems is 8GB of ram. With 8gb, you'll be able to handle most things pretty well, but at 4gb you're just scraping what's acceptable and what's not.
You should be able to get 8GB of ram @1600MHz for $80 or so. Playing with HD textures and the large worlds found in MMORPGs, this could DEFINITELY make a difference.

If you're gonna upgrade your GPU you may want a meatier PSU as well though. Potentially one with more watts.

Oh, I would have never thought, that there will be responses so fast! (especially from Snorlax ;) - Thanks guys

I have 8 GB ram, sorry i wrote it badly 4GB + 2x2GB = 8GB - I will edit it.
- Is 8 GB DDR3, 1333 MHz RAM still not good enough? And is it bad idea to just add some more with higher MHzs? I think its not recomended..?

What PSU would you recommended me, so it will last for few years? 750W? And is there something important to check, with it or can I pick one with good reviews from good manufacturer?

You won't gain any benefit out of it. All of the RAM will be tuned back to whatever the slowest ram you have is. Not only that, but there can be compatibility issues as well. So yes, I would not recommend that and don't think many people do.

PSUs... I'd go with Seasonic or Corsair. With PSUs, you almost always get what you paid for. You can go out and by yourself a 600w Diablotek PSU for like $30 but I guarantee you it'll be toast in a month.

Hello,
so I just ordered, I was quite limited with what is available in my country (Czech Republic). I posted price differences for curiosity.

- MSI GeForce GTX 970 4GB Twin Frozr V Video Card $343.98 on Newegg, $431.36 in my country
- EVGA 750W 80+ Gold Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply $84.99 on NCIX US 131,56$ in my country

Well, PC components are quite expensive for us atm, but I wont regret it, if it will fit my case and will work as intended :)

Thanks for help so far, I will let you know how it well.

Hello,

so I installed new beautifull GPU and PSU, and first impressions was sadly bad, i played Skyforge MMO and World of Warships, and nothing to close to stable 60 FPS on high settings :/

But i just tried Witcher 3 via GeForce experience (after I recovered saves from formated hdd (GOG Galaxy does not have cloud saves :O) - and in quite beautifull settings in combat it was stable 55-60 FPS. Hurray.

--- So, my CPU is not powerfull enough for MMO open areas? Or is there something else what can make that difference in online multiplayer games?
