Hello all,
My current set up right now has two hard drives. My SSD for boot drive and 1 tb seagate HDD for installed games. Now im planning on getting a higher end but smaller sized SSD for boot drive and doing a clean install of the os (i have the full retail windows 8.1 ) My question is can i just keep the installed games on the HDD or do i need to reformat it to be recognize.
Also note that only the actual game files are installed on the HDD.
Thanks in advance!

Solution
You can keep them on the drive with almost every game service.
With steam for example, change the download directory from the C: drive to the D: (HDD) drive in steam, then you simply have to go through and "download" each game again, it will do its space allocation and search for existing files. Once it finds them in the directory it will finish, no download.

You don't have to do that with Steam, Just directly cut and paste the whole Steam directory to the new location. Steam will auto configure itself to work in its new location. You don't have to re-download any games that is stored within the Steam directory.

Thanks guys! i only have 4 games so far installed on this new system. Only one on steam which is the free batman arkham knight. Also i forgot to mention that i have the full steam application installed on the HDD. The rest is retail version of the game which has different clients such gog and ea origin. Their client application is installed on the SSD.
Also my main concern is GTA V as i have to wait almost two days just to download the day one patch. Can i just download rockstar games social club and be good to go to play again?

Make a copy of your GTA V directory.
For the Rockstar version:
Start the download for it once you have set up your SSD. Pause the download and close the launcher. Copy paste the files from your original copy to the new location for where GTA V will be installed. Restart the launcher and it should redownload anything you missing. If it is already up to date, it will allow you to run the game.

btw, you'll likely need to REMOVE the old SSD when you do the fresh OS install. That will actually make it easier to set the HDD as D: (or what ever it is now). Once you have OS installed and HDD set correctly, you can add the old SSD back in

that is correct. However will i be able to launch the games without issues even though only the game installs are in the hdd? Do i have to make sure i have their respected clients installed on the C: drive before i can play the game. And also like i stated with GTA V, since i bought the retail version of it will i be able to play with no problem by just trying to relaunch the game. I dont quite understand the method of making a copy of the GTA V directory since i have the retail version.
Thanks!
