Hello,

Recently my sony vaio E series (VPCEA33EN) started giving an error message "SMART Failure Predicted on Hard Disk".

The message asked me to take backup and replace HDD immediately.
After pressing F1 key the windows is booting normally.

What should i do in this scenario.
I already took complete backup.

Whether I need to change the HDD asap or I need to wait till it dies ??

If I wait till HDD dies then is there any side effects to hardware (like motherboar, ram etc) ??

Please guide me.

Solution
You can wait until the disk dies, but you must continue to take regular backups. Any work that you do after taking a backup will be lost if the disk fails.

You might find it better to replace the disk whilst it is still working. It is easier to clone it to a new disk; it also gives you a chance to ensure that you can restore from your backup.

Welcome to the community, Santanu5127!

Good job with the immediate backup! I'd suggest you to start looking for a replacement drive, however, I'd first check in with your laptop manufacturer's tech support. There shouldn't be any consequences for other hardware components but it's highly recommended to change it before it completely fails. Otherwise, you won't be able to use your laptop when it does.
Keep in mind that if the laptop is still under warranty, you'd be voiding it if you open the laptop yourself to replace that HDD.

Good luck and don't forget to backup! :)

Thanks for your reply.
It's not under warranty as it is almost 5 years :)
My laptop's existing HDD is Toshiba MK3265GSX 320GB.
I am planning to buy a 500 GB HDD.
