Question About Laptop Longevity

Hi folks. I'm in the market for a new gaming laptop and I've narrowed it down to two choices. The first is the new Aorus x5 with SLI 965m and 16 gb RAM. The other is the MSI Ghost Pro with the 6 gb 970m.

What's stopping me from pulling the trigger on the Aorus is cooling concerns. I've had PCs fail because of overheating before, back when I really had no concept of cooling. Will this laptop still be alive and kicking in, say, five years? Or will I be replacing a burnt out machine two years in?

If the latter is the case, I'd rather go with the Ghost and just turn settings down a notch as time goes on. 1080p gaming for the long run is the goal.

Heat is a killer of laptops but either device can last very long if you maintain them well. What that means is always make sure the laptop has adequate airflow (use a table top always), maybe even add a cooling pad for when you play heavy games. Also make sure to keep it clean and dust free especially in the vents. You should be cleaning it every few months. Otherwise I wouldn't worry.

Well I'm going to be schlepping this thing around between home, work and meetings (no I don't care about flashy logos at meetings :D) so I wasn't planning on adding a cooling pad. It will, however, always be on a hard, flat surface.

Why not go with a two mode solution, i don't know what do you do at work but if the stuff is not too tech demanding why not get a slim $500 laptop and build a gaming rig for home. I nice i5 rig with a GTX960 will be way better than a gaming laptop.
