I ordered a new SSD and it just came in today, and ive been looking to find out how to get my OS onto my SSD and came to the conclusion that doing a fresh install onto the ssd is the best/easiest way to do it, correct?

But i have some questions,
1: does it matter about the registration code? since i only have one and used it for the os on my HDD, will doing a fresh install onto my SSD recognize my genuine copy on my HDD and i wont have any problems?

2: am i supposed to unplug my hdd, pug in my ssd, re-do the boot order in my bios, then install windows, and plug in the hdd again? or how am i supposed to do it?

3: and what about my other files? is it just a simple drop and drag/ copy and paste?

i think thats it. my main concern is the code for a genuine windows.

Thanks to all.

Solution
1. The license code is fine. You'll have to re-enter it during the install

2. Install with only the SD connected. After, when it is actually working properly, then connect the HDD

3. Files and applications
Files - copy/paste
Applications will need to be reinstalled.

The drivers, you need to reinstall. All applications, you need to reinstall.
What do you mean by 'the registration number'? The Windows license? It does not pick that up from the HDD. You need to enter it manually.

i bought it when i first built my pc. i used the license key on the windows 7 that is on my 1tb hdd right now, and my first question was if that mattered and i was told it didnt so i did a clean install onto my ssd. and when i go to put in the license key i am told there is an error.

Just installing on a new drive, no, it should not matter.
You may have to go through the MS phone robot to reactivate.

Ok thank you. I got it now. Right before i phoned i found a way to disable your license through CMD and move it to a new computer, so i just moved my license over to my ssd. Thanks for the help. I dont know why it wouldnt let me just do it the easy way like i seen lots of other people do it. But thanks!
