I was wondering if my cpu is holding my computer back, it's mainly a gaming computer

SPECS-
Cpu- AMD FX 8320 (3.5 ghz)
Motherboard- gigabyte 970a ds3p (AM3+ socket)
Gpu- Msi GeForce 980 gaming 4g
Ram- 32gb
600 watt power supply
If there is anything missing just let me know
But I have been thinking about upgrading my cpu lately and I was wondering if I should stay with the fx series or go down a completley different route?
Thanks in advance

Yes your motherboard does not have the proper power phase to even run that FX8320 at stock speeds under load. Pretty much a guaranteed bottleneck. If your psu is a low quality unit, you'll have even more issues.

Next time, ALWAYS get a high quality motherboard and psu. They are the two most important parts of every build.

Al tho his motherboard will work with that cpu and many others I would of went with a 990FX and as mention a better PSU as well but I don't belive he can over clock well on that board.. As to the path Well they say the I5 4690K is so much faster but from what I seen its on par with the 8350 but the 8350 is weak on single threaded apps.... You have no real upgrade path on the AM3+ board Either go with the Intel I5 or wait till next year for AMD zen either way you have to buy another board for a upgrade to really make your GPU SHINE....

Bottom line go with the intel 1150 socket its going to be around for awhile you have a better upgrade path... The amd setup is getting long in the tooth... Yes I own both Intel and amd...
