I think i may upgrade to skylake..my system is getting a little boring..what sort of improvements in computational power will i see..i heard it may be out early aug..

Solution
Skylake is due to be announced in August, but it may take a few months before we see the chips.

It is expected to be another 5% increase over Broadwell, which may put it 8-10% over Haswell. The more significant improvement seems to be in the iGPU.

Of course, until actual benchmarks are out, this is all conjecture.

What are you using the computer for?

The OP is using Sandy Bridge

Skylake should be 25-30% faster clock-for-clock than Sandy, so you will likely find it almost every bit as boring after a short while. I personally do not bother with upgrades smaller than 100% and at this rate, I may be using my i5-3470 until 2020 unless it blows up or I absolutely need some of the new interfaces that will come along long before then.

I don't think the upgrade will be boring, My upgrade from the 3570k to a 4790k @ 4.6 cache and clock was certainly a big step.
If the OP upgrades to Skylake he is also getting a more advanced and refined chipset...

im still using my 2600k at 4.0 ghz with asrock extreme 11 z77 mobo 8gb ram and gigabyte 970's (4GB) in sli and have no problems running BF4 Crysis3 etc. over 120fps at 5760x1080 res. according to evga precision x charts, still the pci express bus is not maxed out ( 60%) and my cpu is only running at max 50%. i still cant find a reason to spend the money to upgrade

Did you end up getting the skylake? I know they're hard to find, the only place I've seen the 6700k is in Akihabara earlier this month...
