Hello!

Since a few weeks i've bought myself an new system. I had W7 ultimate x64 installed on it but i was getting BSOD on it so i've installed W8.1 Pro x64 on it. It was working fine for a day or two but since then i've been getting random BSOD, at first it was once an hour but later on it was every few minutes after a reboot. Also randomly a message apears "Over current has been detected on your usb device!!", even when no single usb device was connected!

I've searched Tom's hardware for a solition, first i disabled all the USB ports on the system except on the Motherboard offcourse, also checked for a loose pin or a broken one, nothing found.. Worked for 5mins after i was getting BSOD.. Also ran Memorycheck and harddisk-check but they didn't find any error's. Also removed/replaced/refitted the memory, didn't solve it neither. In Savemode it lasts for about 5mins also before it crashes..

I've uploaded an bluescreen result here:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B6vf5aPoRTpHaGN3dFA3OUlMNVk/view?usp=sharing[strike][/strike]

Motherboard: MSI A78M-E45

Graphics card: AMD Radeon 8570D
SSD: Kingston 120 GB
Harddisk: Seagate 2TB SATA 7200rpm

USB2.0: 6x
USB3.0: 6x
VGA: 1x
HDMI: 1x
DVI: 1x
Chassis: Cooler Master N300

I really hope someone can point me in the right direction! Thanks in advance!

Thanks for the reply,

I've set the Bios to default, there isn't a overclocking enabled.

you need to put the actual files located in c:\windows\minidump directory on to a server so they can be viewed with a windows debugger.

you should also run cmd.exe as an admin then run
sfc.exe /scannow
then
dism.exe /online /cleanup-image /restorehealth

you might also want to run memtest86+ and confirm your memory is working as expected.

when someone looks at your memory .dmp files they can look at the drivers list and make suggestions.

Ok, this is how far it got...

One of the stop errors is 0x24 and ntfs.sys is crashing. This can mean the system is corrupted.

And/or the hdd is ready to die

How old are the hard drives? Which hdd is the bootdisk / the one with windows on it? The SG or the SSD?

Since youre getting a 024 stop error (I dont think those hdd's are that old) scan for rootkits.

Download then run tdsskiller. See if it picks up any rootkits.

I would disable AMD overdrive. This is a known cause of crashes

Dear Paul,

Thats what i also think, just tried several times a reinstall but it keeps failing at copying files.. The ssd and SG hdd are new and came with the system, ive tested then and they are 300hours old so these were new ones. Just copying my sensitive data now just to be sure!

Also tested some portable OS's but they work just fine since they aren't using the hdd/ssd

Going to install windows on an other drive in the system and then see what result we'll get!

The ssd is the boot drive and the SG is the 'data' drive

yeah, thats what i think, going to deepscan it and test with other hdd tomorrow! thats for your help so far!

Still, I would make sure the memory speed is 1600MHz and the timings are 9-9-9-24. Setting BIOS to default hardly ever sets the memory up correctly.

Legit! i have access to Microsoft Dreamspark because of being a IT student.

Must be the way youre burning them if youre using a dvd. Thats if the dvd is the prob. Youre not using a DVD-RW are you?

If you've got a flash drive use one of the ISO's and use rufus then boot from it

See if any errors come up then

Make sure you configure the bios properly before you reinstall

Exactly! That's probably the whole problem. The BIOS not set up correctly. Just a basic default is hardly ever the right way to go.

What do you recommend regarding settings in the bios?

i've got a Click4 bios from MSI

Just like this one as an example;
MSI%20Z87I%20BIOS%2004%20-%20Advanced.png

Well if you want to use AHCI in the BIOS enable it BEFORE you install windows.

As long as you install Vista - Windows 8, it'll install SATA drivers. If you use Windows 8 enable secureboot

Since I dont know what the settings are on your mobo, I can't tell you anything else. I've never used MSI mobos. I use ASUS

But the above are the only things I change (as well as the time). I disable the floppy if the option is there. Because I dont have 1.

But since I use a TPM module, and Virtualisation (I may use it) both of these options are also enabled. Those are the only options I change
