Dropped my wifes WD external the other day, device powers on and windows makes the noise like somethings there on both connect and disconect but doesnt show the drive

So After reading around the forums found a few threads asking about

http://www.users.on.net/~fzabkar/USB_IDs/UVCView.x86.ex...
http://www.hdsentinel.com/

I have run both, both find the drive with no issues

all info on sentinel says unknown, but uvc had no issue getting it.
hardrive does not seem to be making any noise sadly.

any suggestions on what to do next? wife said to try what ever I could find

Hi there Aimhirghin,

That is an unpleasant situation. :(
Unfortunately, the drive is most probably physically damaged. If this is the case, and the data stored on it is really important, your safest bet of recoverying the data is to contact a data recovery company. You can check WD's Data Recovery Partners out: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=Zk7PVY

How is the drive recognized in Disk Management?
It seems that software testing tools can't access the drive properly. You can try testing it with WD's Data Lifeguard Diagnostic tool as well: http://products.wdc.com/support/kb.ashx?id=K35qBT

Even though this most probably will not help, I guess it will not hurt to try using a different USB cable.

Cheers,

WD's program says it has a 0 capacity and the smart status as unknown

Disk management doesnt seem to find it

tried a different cord and windows made the noise again like a device had been connected AND the entire computer lagged up for a moment like it was going to pop up, then nothing sadly

Cant really afford the data recovery, nothing really important on it, just some of the family photos and my old movie projects so kinda looking for some diy solutions even i they are a tad risky
