hey everyone.

My household currently has Verizon FiOS at 50mbps down and 50mbps up. We're using a Belkin N300 router connected to the verizon modem.

I noticed sometimes that its hard for me to load up webpages or watch videos. There's no particular time of day this happens and I suspect its due to other users at home eating up the bandwidth. Is there a way to allocate a certain number of mbps to each user? My ideal set up would be to have separate networks for each user, allocating around 10mbps each so all of us can use the internet with no lag.

is this even possible? I was thinking of buying a couple of old wireless B routers and connecting them on the modem somehow and having different networks? Would purchasing a linksys router and flashing it with DDWRT work?

total noob at this so please let me know if you have any suggestions or solutions.

thanks so much

Hello,

What you are looking for is "Quality of Service".

Here is a link to the Belkin N300 User Manual:

http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/F9K1004v1%20manual%20-%20revA00.pdf

QoS configuration information starts on page 80. However you should check that the manual is applicable to your router version and, in any case, read through the manual to ensure that you understand as much about your router as you can.

You may find additional information in Belkin's FAQs and forums. Work through that first before going forward with purchasing additional routers (that may not really help) or attempting to work with DD-WRT. You will need to increase your knowledge before going down either one or both of those paths. Take your time, keep notes, and ensure that you fully understand each step that you take.
