I am upgrading my GPU to a R9 280x from an old Nvidia Card, I’ve uninstalled the drivers to the old card (Nvidia drivers), and am now currently running my display off the motherboard. After I uninstalled the drivers my wired internet connection has ceased to be recognised and the PC no longer acknowledges there is even a cable plugged in.

There is nothing wrong with the cable (I tested it with my laptop), the motherboard lights up to indicate the cable is plugged in. But no connection, have I missed something here? I can’t put it down to anything else, because I that is the only variable I changed before it stopped working.

PC RIG:
OS: Windows XP SP3
CPU: Athlon 64 X2 Dual 4200+ (2.21Ghz)
RAM: 2GB DDR2
MOBO: Asus M2N-MX SE
GPU: Sapphire R9 280x (Currently off line, can’t get drivers due to internet connection not working)
POWER SUPPLY: Thermaltake LP-500NL1NH (500w)
INTERNET CONECTIONS: Wired ONLY

Hello Laserfont,

Quick question: Your specs show that you have a 500w PSU. The R9 280x requires 750w as I understand it.

Can you verify that? Not sure about the overall impact of a PC being so underpowered but lots of strange things can happen.....

Also, I would double check all physical connections inside the PC: cables, cards, etc. Something may have been loosened a bit during the earlier work.

And, just for the record, try another cable. Sometimes a cable will work on one PC but not another. Just some small mechanical difference with respect to getting a good connection or not.
